Day 2 Mon Loup!

..And so it continues!!

Got up this morning anticipating (notice italic and coloration) breakfast. I felt hungry and that leftover fish was calling my name:

Meal #1: Turbo Leftovers

What: Turbot leftovers from yesterday, pecans and kiwi. My initial inclination was to eat walnuts, but they are resilient buggers and it proved quite challenging to break them out of their shell without the proper equipment! Proper equipment people!

Next was a pretty sedentary morning catching up on my blogging. Turns out this stuff takes time to write!! I'm having a lot of fun with it though and all your comments really add to the awesomeness! Thanks everyone!

Ok ok I'm stalling a bit - To meal #2!! Can anyone guess...... Smoothie!

Meal #2: Crazy Smoothie!
Pre Blend
 Post Blend - Merry Christmas!

What: Frozen fruit, Strawberry, Celery, Egg, Broccoli smoothie.... yes, you read correctly, broccoli... one more time... broccoli!
Verdict: Turns out broccoli is not a great smoothie ingredient! Who would have thought?

The smoothie went down pretty quickly as I was running late for ballet with my friend Nathalie. Yes, ballet! I hope you guys are sitting down reading this as I realize I'm dropping some shock bombs at the moment. First, broccoli and now, ballet?!

Or maybe its my inner stereotype talking? Let me break through it right now: Ballet is cool yo', even for dudes. I actually think ballet dancers are physical monsters and what they do is impressive to say the least.

The production was Moulin Rouge by the Royal Winnipeg Ballet choreographed by Jorden Morris:

Nat and I Doing the, Uhh, Ballet Posing Thing

Now I'm no ballet critic or anything, but I was anticipating some rowdy, naughty, intense, emotional, dramatic, and compelling storytelling (no expectations!). It's Moulin Rouge!! What was delivered was a good show. The lead female dancer was a hypnotizing sight and the ensemble scenes allowed the cast to really show off their chemistry. At times though, it felt a little slow and, as Nat pointed out well, the music didn't seem to fit the show. I am nonetheless very glad to have checked it out and one scene in particular, a duet (is that what it's called when there are only two dancers?) before the end of the first act over the song clair de lune was amazing.

After ballet came the awesome event that was the Habs' victory over the evil Bruins (any Boston fans out there?). These are the types of Saturdays I love! Lots of action and variety! So after a short break chillin' at mine, Nat picked me up and we headed out to Jamie and Tara's for the action. Now if you are a fan of hockey I highly recommend you check out a game in their basement one day. Possibly the best place for a game in the city, their basement is cozy and is a shrine to the great moments and people of le bleu blanc rouge. Add a big screen, the game in HD and good company... tough to beat!

I was so excited about the hockey that I, ermm, forgot to take a pic of my barbecued steak before starting to scarf it down. So here is a photo of the plate in the midst of a devouring tornado:

Meal #3: Barbecued Steak and Grilled Peppers
What: Title says it all! A little olive oil on the veggies and I snook in a piece of bacon mid meal! Bacon is epic.

To make up for this below par food photo, I offer a pic of Jamie and Tara's adorable mini-me, Aiden, rocking his Habs jersey like it's nobody's business:

Future #1 Fan of Les Glorieux

Go Habs!

Before I end my post, I'd like to say something about the physical effect this type of eating has had on me so far. I find it interesting that I am eating less and yet seem to be less hungry than I normally am. My body feels a little different in the way it's digesting food but I'm not sure yet if that is due to the changing of the diet or.... SUPER PALEO POWER!!!

And that's my story!

  1. I'm feeling the same way as nutrition wise. I'm eating smaller portions and don't feel as hungry as when my diet was full of grains bread and dairy products. My stomach stopped making weird noises during the day and I don't feel bloated anymore. Thanks for doing this challenge. I don't know how long or if I would of even tried it if we didn't have that talk last week.

  3. Please tell me the broccoli was not raw?? It would blend so much better if it were at least steamed and a little raw honey in the smoothie (which is paleo) would make it more palletable :-) Loving your blog...keep it coming.
